Story.

Our stories shape our experiences of the world around us. They inform us of who we are, where we are from and where are going. Stories literally shape our immune response, and the imagination is the limit of what can be possible in human living and encounter. For these reasons, we prioritize storytelling and arts in our work. So as we connect back to critical relationships to the earth and to each other that were wounded through colonialism, we are bringing back old stories and weaving new ones. We are bridging times and worlds together through story, art and imaginings. As we thread through this critical moment in human history, we know the arts are what shape us and uplift our ability to see what is in front of us and what is possible.

Indigenous Chef and DMC Advisor Crystal Wahpepah brings Food as Medicine to the Tree Planting Ceremony

The Deep Medicine Circle supports the reawakening of and the creation of Indigenous and Diaspora narratives to better understand our work together in healing from colonialism and creating a culture of care. As we grow, we will be inviting artist engagements and residencies in writing, media, music, dance, oral storytelling and cooking to more deeply explore the nature of our work connecting people back to land, foods and medicines. We are grateful to have the support for our arts development from the tireless and inspired work of Barbara Mumby Huerta, Vice President of Programs and Partnerships of the Native Arts and Cultures Foundation and Renée Baldocchi, former Director of Public Programs at the Fine Arts Museums of San Francisco and current lead of Baldocchi Projects and Collaborations.
